Angling Trust Wessex Region Marine

Welcome to The Angling Trust Wessex Region Marine website, AT Wessex Region is the most prominent Region within the National Body in terms of Affiliation. Our Region currently comprises in excess of 50 affiliated angling clubs with their own officers and committee dedicated to promoting sea angling within our area. The Angling Trust is the Governing Body that represents all course, game and sea anglers and angling in England. 

Sea Anglers, Clubs & Skippers Encouraged to Apply for £6 Million A Year Fund

The recreational sea angling community is among those applicable to funding under the Fisheries and Seafood Scheme which has earmarked £18 million over the next three years for England’s seafood sector.

WESSEX CHANGES

Following our latest Wessex Meeting, Brian Bleese (Secretary) has had to step down from his position due to work commitments. We would like to thank Brian for all his efforts on behalf of the Wessex Division during his time of Office. Ray Ashby will now step in as ‘Acting Secretary’ until the 2024 AGM (or sooner if a permanent replacement can be appointed). A GUIDE TO FISHING IN THE WESSEX REGION

BOAT FISHING
The Wessex region hosts some of the best all year round fishing in the Country with many British records being accounted for from the waters off Weymouth and the Isle of Wight.

TO THE EAST
If you trail your own boat, launching sites can be found at Hayling Island, Eastney, Old Portsmouth, Gosport, Stokes Bay and Lee-on-Solent. Langstone and Portsmouth Harbours are good areas to fish throughout the year from boats.

ANGLING TRUST WESSEX REGION MARINE RECORDS

Wessex Region Boat Record Fish Lists are formulated from the data supplied through the Angling Trust Specimen Award Scheme and National Record Lists. Additionally, Wessex Region Club / Members are invited to submit record fish claims, by letter, to the Secretary, enclosing accurate details of the species caught, together with a photograph of the fish.

The European Federation of Sea Anglers was formed in 1961 by a group of international anglers who were taking part in a fishing festival being held out of Looe in England. Many of these anglers had fished together for a number of years and seven nations were represented.

Champ of Champs

This Comp was fished at Stokes Bay/Gilkicker on Saturday 22nd November, with Gosport & District the host Club. This Competition was Catch and Release with a length to weight chart being used for all species. 20 anglers registered into this Competition, which was in conjunction with the Drayton Angling Club Open.

Boat Championships

Boat Championships

On 30th June at the port of Poole on the quayside the anglers started to meet up ready to start registration and pay the £5 optional pool for most species on the day. At 0730 the boats started to load, ready for the 8 o’clock departure. This year it was a good entry of 41 anglers to fish on 5 boats.
